Duttons Break Ground on New Theater Face

Press Release – March 17, 2023

Duttons Break Ground on New Theater Face

The Duttons are pleased to announce the next step in recovery from last July’s devastating fire is about to take place with a groundbreaking on a new theater face.

The new design, based on ideas from their creative CEO Sheila Dutton and the vision of design consultant Billy Ong, will be implemented in three stages.

“We wanted to create something outstanding and inviting, but still be true to our mission and to the idea of what Branson is all about,” says Sheila Dutton. “When Mr. Ong presented me with the artist’s renderings, I was overwhelmed. He captured perfectly what we were going for and though it will take us a little longer to complete than initially planned, the wait will be worth it, and we are so excited to get started.”

Stage one of the new look will consist of adding decorative towers, a canopy, and the large Dutton logo dominating the center parapet wall. Stages two and three will include a giant violin and music staff complete with notes curling from Abby’s Tourist Trap (the gift shop located next to the Dutton Theater, also owned and operated by The Duttons) to the opposite side of the theater. The crown jewel of the new design is iconic fountain designed by Mr. Ong depicts hands in a circle playing violins reminiscent of The Dutton’s stunt violin trick “the Violin Lineup.”

“It was such a wonderful experience doing the design,” said Billy Ong, project manager. “I had some ideas floating around in my head, but it took going to their show and then it all came together. After seeing the show, I knew exactly what needed to be done. The fountain, with the hands and violins all working together not only symbolizes the Duttons and their musical talent but also unity of family and community.”

The Duttons are delighted to be a part of the city wide improvements aimed at increasing tourism and Branson as a destination.

“The Duttons‘ rebuild is a hallmark project for the next phase of the 76 Entertainment District revitalization,” explained Ann McDowell, Communications and Creative Coordinator for the 76 Entertainment Community Improvement District. “Their visitor-focused team is creating a beautiful and memorable experience that is uniquely Branson. The quality renovation done here will set the tone for the entertainment destination re-creation coming soon.”

The Duttons also expressed their deep appreciation to the community and all of the individuals that have helped them get their theater back up and running.

“From the officials at the City, to the first responders to our fellow entertainers in town and everyone in between, the love and support we have felt from the community has been so overwhelming,” the family said in a joint statement. The number of individuals and organizations that have come to our aid is amazing. We wish we could name them all, but if we did we would be standing here all day. Let us just say though that we love you all and are so very, very grateful for your support.”

While the work is continuing on the outside, Timothy Dutton tells us that the inside will be ready for opening on April 17th.

“The theater has been thoroughly cleaned, the seat cushions and upholstery have been installed, lights, sound and effects modules have been cleaned and those that couldn’t be repaired are being replaced,” Dutton said. “It has been a long, exhausting effort and the end is finally in sight. We are so grateful to everyone at Trifecta Restoration, and several other companies for getting us to this point. We will open on schedule – even though the front won’t be ready for a few weeks, the inside is ready to go.”

Construction on the outside of the theater will be completed by Jim Webber of Edifice Contracting and all the signage elements will be manufactured and installed by Missouri Neon. Final completion of stage one of the rebuild of the Dutton Family Theater is expected to be completed by mid-June.

The Duttons will open their show on April 17. Tickets are available by calling 417-332-2772 or by visiting duttoncms.wpenginepowered.com/tickets

Fire and Cancer Can’t Stop The Duttons Show – Mesa Opening 2023

Branson Missouri’s Premier Performing Family, The Duttons, are returning to Mesa for their 2023 Winter Season.

“We are so excited to be back in the valley!” Matriarch Sheila Dutton said. “We are looking forward to our opening on January 19 in our Mesa theater at 74th and Main.”

After a fire temporarily closed their Branson theater, and a recent cancer diagnosis for lead violinist, Amy Dutton Arambulo, The Duttons are looking forward to getting back on track and bringing their unique brand of music to their Mesa audiences.

“2022 was kind of a rough year for us,” says Amy. “First we had a devastating fire in our Branson Theater in July that destroyed the lobby and caused extensive smoke damage throughout the entire theater. Then, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October and that pretty much turned everything upside down.”

As they say, in show business, the show must go on, and these setbacks did not stop The Duttons or the show.

Thanks to a much appreciated invitation from Yakov Smirnoff the Duttons were able to move their show to his theater in Branson for the fall and Christmas Season. For Amy’s situation, sheer determination got her through the Christmas season to now, without missing a single performance.

Her strength in the face of such a strong challenge inspired her family.

“Quite frankly, none of us believed that Amy would be doing so well through her chemo treatments,” says older brother Tim. “Amy honestly has been an inspiration through her whole experience. She hasn’t missed a single show. And while I know she has days where she doesn’t feel well, she never lets it show on stage, and her determination to beat this is amazing.”

Amy has almost completed her chemotherapy treatments and expects to complete her program by the end of February.

While performing in Arizona, the family will also be working with those who are getting the Branson theater ready following the fire.

“The Dutton Theater in Branson is going through what I would call a facelift,” Sheila said. “The lobby is being re-built, everything has been cleaned and a whole new facade is being prepared for the front. While this is not an experience we would have chosen to go through, we are so grateful that we have this wonderful opportunity to make improvements to our theater, and are looking forward to getting back open there mid-April of 2023.”

The Branson fire ended up bringing a benefit to the Mesa Theater.

“While we were making improvements to Branson, it only made sense to upgrade the Mesa sound and lights at the same time,” says Tim. “We brought a whole cadre of new lights and effects that we are in the process of installing here at the Dutton Theater, Mesa.”

The Duttons will be performing in their Mesa location Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays starting January 19 and will perform through April 1. Tickets are available by calling 480-840-6874 or by visiting their website at duttoncms.wpenginepowered.com/tickets

Duttons Move Show to Yakov’s While Theater is Under Repair

Duttons Move Show to Yakov’s While Theater is Under Repair

August 1, 2002

The Duttons are happy to announce the re-opening of their award winning show at the beautiful Yakov Theater at 470 State Hwy 248, in Branson starting on Monday September 26, 2022, at 8pm.

After a devastating fire in their own Dutton Family Theater on July 13, the Duttons have been waiting for estimates of the damage and have been looking at plans for how long it would take to. make the theater safe for performers and guests.

“We were hoping in the beginning that the fire damage was minimal and we would be able to open our theater back up for guests within a month or two,” Timothy Dutton said. “The deeper we get into this project, however, the more problems we find – especially the amount of smoke damage that went through the whole building, even the parts of the building farthest away from the actual fire. It soon became essential to find a new location to host our show for the remainder of the season. We are so grateful to Yakov for offering to host us and we are delighted to be going into such a beautiful location.”

The Duttons will offer a slightly more limited schedule at Yakov’s, one that will accommodate his showtimes.

“The challenge was to find a theater that was big enough to host a large cast, have enough seats to accommodate our current reservations and had the time slots available for our schedule,” family matriarch Sheila Dutton said. Yakov’s was absolutely the best fit, and when he called to offer, we couldn’t have been more delighted.”

Yakov Smirnoff was happy to help the Duttons.

“I really think that Vladimir Putin was responsible for the fire at The Duttons, so it was the least I could do to invite them into my theater!” Yakov said.

The Duttons season will resume with their “Reunion Shows” where all seven of the original Dutton siblings return to be a part of the production from September 26 – September 30th. The following week, The Duttons will return to the stage with their regular show which runs through October 31. The Christmas show begins on November 1 and runs through December 14. Tickets for any of the Duttons shows are available by calling 417-332-2772 or by visiting duttoncms.wpenginepowered.com.

Yakov Smirnoff opens his show “United We Laugh” on Sunday October 2nd, with performances on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 2pm through November 18th. Tickets are available by calling 417-336-3838 or by visiting www.yakov.com.

Re-construction and clean-up of the fire damage at the Dutton Family Theater will continue through the fall and winter with a scheduled reopening date in April 2023.

Dutton Theater to Close Temporarily to Repair Fire Damage

Dutton Theater to Close Temporarily to Repair Fire Damage

July 15, 2022

The Duttons are sad to announce that the Dutton Family Theater in Branson, Missouri will be closed for the next several weeks due to damages from a fire that occurred in the evening of July 13, 2022.

“We are unsure exactly how long the theater will be out of commission,” said CEO and Technical Director Timothy Dutton. “We are still investigating the extent of the damages and have had several people out to look at what needs to be done. Not even taking into account the actual fire damage, there is extensive water damage in the lobby and restrooms, and serious smoke damage throughout the building that needs to be addressed before we can even let our staff back inside. Our best guess at this point is that we will be out of commission for the next six to eight weeks.”

According to authorities at the scene, the fire started in a trash can situated under the porch on the east side of the theater. One theory is that the whole scenario started with a still smoldering cigarette, tossed into the receptacle. The trash caught fire and the flames quickly worked their way up the corner column to the crawl space, facade and roof of the theater.

Fortunately, the blaze was caught early and the Branson Fire Department was able to contain it quickly. According to their facebook post, the fire was determined to be accidental in nature and fire damage was contained to the front corner of the building and above the lobby ceiling. Smoke damage was noted throughout the structure.

“Right now, one of our biggest challenges is not having any electricity in the theater,” says Sheila Dutton, owner and manager. “The fire department did a wonderful job saving the building, which unfortunately means that a lot of water was used. The corner where the fire source was also happens to be the utility area where all of the electrical components, breakers and the like happen to be. As everyone knows, water and electricity don’t mix very well, and getting that area dried out and repaired is a top priority.”

The Duttons are recommending that individuals already holding tickets for their show visit their good friends across the street, the Hughes Brothers.

“We spoke with Hughes Brothers Theatre CEO Lena Hughes, and they made us the most beautiful offer,” said Judith Dutton, sales and box office manager. “Anyone holding a Dutton ticket can see one of the three Hughes-produced shows that they do not already have a ticket for. They can just take our tickets right across the street and see a great show that has our personal recommendation. Additionally, the Hughes Family is donating back to us the price of those tickets to help us cover our expenses and insurance deductible at this time.”

The good wishes and outreach from the Branson community hasn’t ended there.

“We have been overwhelmed with offers of help from so many of the amazing people in this town,” said Amy Dutton Arambulo, lead violinist and show production manager. “Several theater and show owners have offered time slots in their theaters, recommendations for experts in clean up and repairs, not to mention the multitude of people asking what they could do to help. The response has been overwhelming and honestly rather awe-inspiring.”

Whether The Duttons will take anyone up on any of those offers to perform in another theater during the repairs is still up in the air. Currently, they have no plans to move the show to another stage, but that could change in the coming weeks.

“Honestly, right now we just need to concentrate on getting things in order here,” said Timothy Dutton “The smoke went through the entire building, even the offices below the stage. Right now, the instruments, sound, lighting and video equipment are coated in ash, and the air inside is pretty toxic. We are still figuring out what can be cleaned, what still works and what will need to be replaced. Once we get that established we will be in a better place to make plans. All in all, we have so much to be grateful for. Since we were off this week, there was no one in the building at the time of the fire, so there were no injuries, and while the damage is pretty bad, we don’t believe it will be irreparable.”

“We will get through this. Don’t worry we’ll be back, probably sooner than later!” added Abigail Dutton Wright.

The All Hands on Deck Show, also performing at the Dutton Theater, will also be closed while the theater is under repair. Abby’s Tourist Trap and The Dutton Inn are undamaged and will continue to operate under their normal schedules. The Duttons suggested that anyone wanting to support them through this time, to please consider enjoying a dessert at Abby’s Tourist Trap and suggesting the Dutton Inn to visitors.

Youtube Sensation Alex Boyé Appearing at the Dutton Family Theater

Press Release, For Immediate Release:

July 31, 2021

RE: Youtube Sensation Alex Boyé Appearing at the Dutton Family Theater

The Dutton Family Theater is proud to present youtube sensation Alex Boyé and his show “Africanized” on stage Friday August 6 at 8pm and Saturday August 7 at 2pm, and then in the following week on Tuesday August 10 and Wednesday August 11 both shows at 8pm.

“We were privileged to get to know Alex in 2007 at a benefit concert in Mesa, Arizona,” Dutton Family Theatre General Manager Timothy Dutton said. “We were struck then with his amazing talent and energy, and had always hoped that we would find an opportunity to collaborate together. Having the opportunity to host Alex in our theater is that dream come true.”

About Alex Boyé:

With over 1 billion views on youtube and counting, America’s Got Talent Alumni Alex Boyé is bringing something very unique to Branson through his show entitled “Africanized.” Raised by his Nigerian mother, Alex Infuses the explosive rhythms and various languages of his ancestral continent in ways that perfectly embody Alex’s belief that “Music needs no passport.”

Embracing his rich heritage, the charismatic, London born, U.S. based vocal powerhouse is having a breakthrough year as a mainstream pop artist with an ‘African’ twist.

“Both my parents were born in Nigeria, and I lived there for several years of my early childhood,” says Boyé. “But even with that strong Nigerian background, I never really focused on the African culture in any of my music before. As a singer, I’ve always been this British guy who lives in the US. (I became a citizen on February 22nd, George Washington’s birthday.)

For years my mother urged me to put some African influence into my music, and I never did. Twenty years later, my music was struggling, so I took my mother’s advice by including African influences in my music, and started to find great success! So the moral of this story is…LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER.”

According to Mr. Boyé, “After recently performing an event with the “Revibe” show at the Hughes Brothers Theater, I got home and I was having Branson withdrawals. I was missing the experience and the theaters. Branson is so awesome, it just feels so Godly.

Re-establishing my relationship with The Duttons made me realize that what they do has God’s hands in it, and getting to make my show a part of this whole experience and the work that they do has me just ecstatic!”

In addition to performing his own stand alone show on August 6 and 7, Alex Boyé will be performing a short set with The Duttons at their 8pm show on Thursday August 5.

Duttons to Re-open May 16

Press Release for immediate Release

Press contact: Judith Dutton, 417-332-2772, judith.dutton@gmail.com

The Duttons to Reopen Theater May 16

With the recent declaration from the Governor of Missouri that live events are able to resume, The Duttons are happy to announce that their theater will open on Saturday May 16th, 2020, and have their first show that evening at 8pm. The Duttons will continue on a limited show schedule following that date with a show on Saturday May 23 at 8pm and subsequent shows to be announced in the coming days. Says Sheila Dutton, CEO, “After so much time at home, we know many of you are eager to enjoy a visit to Branson to take part in the extraordinary musical and entertainment culture found here. The Duttons are excited to get back to work and bring music back to Branson.”

Mrs Dutton continued, “We have been very fortunate to meet and work with the team at both the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Branson. Together, with knowledgeable individuals and local health and government authorities, we’re adding and considering several safety measures to do our part helping everyone stay well while we plan to re-open the Dutton Family Theater Complex. We will also continue reaching out to our fans and travel partners to determine the best and safest procedures for our families, staff and guests.”

The Duttons have announced the following plans as part of their re-opening:

Physical distancing and capacity measures: Managing guest traffic while waiting in line for tickets, restrooms and the concessions counter, as well as maintaining sufficient social distancing in our theater, are areas of prime concern. Some of the things that we will be putting in place are markings on the floor to help guests maintain six feet of distance between parties, having a greeter guide the guest through picking up tickets and concessions and escorting them to their seats, reducing the number of guests in the theater to 25% seating capacity, while maintaining a six foot distance between groups, and playing the show without an intermission. Personal Cleanliness and Safety: The Duttons will be installing sanitizer stations at the entry of each facility with additional pumps on high traffic areas like the box office counter, the concessions counter, and the gift shop counters. Screening and prevention support: For now the Duttons have decided that masks will be worn by the staff and Dutton Family Members working in public areas, and they are requesting that guests please wear masks to their performances. While this is not a requirement, The Duttons ask that out of respect to that request, and in support of those in attendance that may be concerned, visitors bring their own masks and gloves with them. For the time being, disposable masks will be available for sale for guests attending the show. Theater and Facility Cleaning: Following each show, seats that were occupied during the show will be sprayed with a disinfectant solution. All hard surfaces in public areas (door handles, counter tops, etc) will be disinfected every hour during regular open hours. Additionally, once the building is unoccupied, ozone machines will run a one hour cycle, following which all the doors of the theater will be opened and fresh air will be cycled in through our industrial ventilation/fan system. Guest and Business Partner Information: In addition to regular updates on duttoncms.wpenginepowered.com and their social media pages, the Duttons are releasing an educational video showing guests some of their plans regarding preparing the theater for each show. This can be seen on their website and social media pages.

These are just a few examples of the plans the Duttons are implementing with guest and staff safety in mind. These plans may be adapted in accordance with advice from local and national government and are subject to change.

During the shutdown, The Duttons have been performing a youtube livestream concert from one of their homes each Thursday evening at 7pm central, and plans are in the works to continue with those broadcasts. “The livestreams have been an amazing amount of fun!” says Amy Dutton Arambulo, the show producer. “We have really enjoyed staying in touch with our fans each Thursday evening, and those livecasts have been such a success, and a chance to try things we normally wouldn’t do in the course of a regular show. We definitely plan on continuing with those for now, with new material each week.”

The Duttons have also prepared a safety video for guests that plan on visiting that can be viewed either on their homepage at duttoncms.wpenginepowered.com or at https://vimeo.com/416801240

The Duttons would also like to recognize the medical professionals working to bring care and comfort in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Reservations may be made to see The Duttons at their theater in Branson by calling 417-332-2772. To watch a livestream from The Duttons visit their youtube channel at youtube.com/theduttons. A complete schedule of the livestreams is also found at livestream.theduttons.com

ars,” chronicles the more than 30 year journey of The Duttons from a young family having fun together in their spare time to one of the country’s most beloved entertainment groups.

Dean Dutton, a tenured professor of economics, never meant to have a performing family. His and his wife Sheila’s desire was to instill discipline in their children through consistent music practice, while learning the joy of producing music. As destiny would have it, the Dutton children’s love of music and family relationships ended up changing Dean‘s life forever. He took early retirement and went on the road with his family!

The Duttons also never set out to amass a large catalogue of musical production video, but TV stations and networks around the world were eager to get footage of this unique group and book appearances. Starting in 1988 with RAI 3 Television out of Rome, Italy, Europe’s largest television network, and continuing with appearances on TF 1 out of Paris, France, and regional television throughout Europe, The Duttons continue to be featured on many of the world’s most prestigious television networks. Along with the above, they have appeared on Chinese National Television, Japanese Television, five national television specials in the U.S., and appeared as finalists on NBC’s hit program “America’s Got Talent.”

The airing of their new series, “The Dutton

s Through the Years,” is their fourth program to air on RFD-TV, and The Duttons couldn’t be more thrilled with that partnership.

“The Duttons Through the Years” highlights the musical genres the Duttons love most – – country, bluegrass, rock ‘n’ roll, classical, and gospel. Add to that the amazing variety of vocals, instruments, dancing, and comedy, and one soon sees why audiences consider The Duttons their favorite show. The unusual versatility of each of the main performers puts The Duttons in a category all their own. Three generations on stage at once tugs at the heartstrings of audiences everywhere. Additionally, the breathtaking scenery of the on-location music videos is one of the crown jewels of this series.

“The Duttons Through the Years” airs on Friday evenings at 7:30 pm eastern on RFD-TV and each episode will re-air on Tuesday afternoons at 4:00pm eastern. The pilot (with special guest star, Grammy Award Winner, Billy Dean) re-airs on Friday June 15, 2018.

The Blackwoods will open their season at the Dutton Family Theater on February 9, 2017. The Duttons will open April 5, 2017 and All Hands on Deck will open April 7th. For tickets and information, please contact the Dutton Family theater at 417-332-2772.

“We felt honored when Bob Petts of the National Educational Television Association asked us to submit another special,” said Sheila Dutton. “We have loved working with NETA in the past, and we agreed with Mr. Petts that it had been too long since our last special. Running our two Theaters in Mesa, Arizona and Branson, Missouri, touring across the country, and welcoming our grandchildren into the family has consumed our energies for the last few years. What a joy it has been for us to work on this creative project together!”

“CHRISTMAS WITH THE DUTTONS” combines the high-energy uplift of their year-long show – a blend of musical genres from classical to bluegrass to pop and more – with heartwarming holiday numbers that will inspire and cheer audiences. All members of this talented family perform, from Grandma and Grandpa, Sheila and Dean, to the youngest grandchildren. The Duttons were Top 10 finishers on America’s Got Talent, and have been awarded TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for consistently great reviews by audience members. “Words don’t do justice to the incredible talent and skills each family member brings to the show,” writes one recent show attendee. “The show was very high energy and motivating,” raves another.

“It’s tough to get a complete list of where and when we’re on, sometimes, until after the show has already aired in some locations. With more than 350 stations to track across the country, there are always a few we miss telling our fans about,” says Timothy Dutton, CEO of Dutton Productions. “So it is always best to check with your local station before the Christmas season. Public stations also respond well to the requests of their audiences. If “CHRISTMAS WITH THE DUTTONS” has not yet been placed on the schedule in your area, be sure and ask for it. ” In 2003, THE DUTTONS HOLIDAY SPECIAL ran more times than any other Christmas Special on public television. Many stations aired it repeatedly. That was in part due to requests to local stations by The Duttons’ supporters across the country.

Be sure to check your local station’s listings for dates and times for “CHRISTMAS WITH THE DUTTONS.” A partial listing of stations and times is available at duttoncms.wpenginepowered.com/on-tv

Sheila and Dean Dutton Presented With Lifetime Achievement Award

SHEILA AND DEAN DUTTON PRESENTED WITH LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Branson Terry Awards recognize matriarch and patriarch of local performing family

Dean and Sheila Dutton Receive the Lifetime Achievement Award

Branson, MO: Dean and Sheila Dutton were honored by The Branson Terry Awards last evening at their annual gala as the recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Presented by Program Producer, Chisai Childs, The Duttons were recognized for their years of concerts on the road, but also for continuing the tradition of music that was established in their theater by Boxcar Willie. “What a wonderful surprise!” said Sheila Dutton, who, with her husband Dean, has guided the Dutton Family band and business for nearly 30 years. “This certainly wasn’t what we expected to be doing for a living when we first had kids,” said Dean, “but what a journey it’s been. Sheila and I thank the Lord every day for the blessing of a loving family, and for fans who enjoy our work!”

The Duttons receive several awards, including Best Show

The Duttons were also recognized recently when The Branson Show Awards, in conjunction with the Branson Arts Council, announced at their recent annual awards dinner that their panel of judges had selected The Duttons Show as show of the year. Six other highly acclaimed Branson shows were nominated in the field.

“It’s a great honor,” said Timothy Dutton, who himself was named Branson’s Best Instrumentalist at the ceremony. “There’s so much talent here in town, and to be recognized alongside other performers we respect is something we’re truly grateful for.” Dutton’s sister Amy, who got the nod for Branson’s Best Violinist, added “It’s humbling to get the award, but at the same time energizing – we work so hard to give our audiences our all, and this inspires us to want to raise the bar even higher.”

The Duttons are currently putting the final touches on their Christmas Show, which they’ll debut in Branson on November 1st, and carry forward into their Winter season at their Family Theater in Mesa, AZ, in December. Their most recent PBS television special, “CHRISTMAS WITH THE DUTTONS,” will air on PBS stations around the country and in Canada beginning in November.

Duttons Perform At Cardinals Game

The Duttons were asked to sing the National Anthem to open the Springfield Cardinals baseball game on July 17.

Sunday’s game at Hammons Field was “Make-A-Wish Night at the Ballpark,” supporting the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The foundation’s vision is to grant the wishes of children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions.

For each special ticket purchased at the game, a percentage of the ticket was donated directly to the Make-A-Wish Missouri office. Each ticket holder also was given a free Cardinals cap.

From the pitcher’s mound, Amy, Judith, Tim, and Benjamin sang a moving rendition of the National Anthem. Tim Dutton said he felt proud to be able to participate in the event:

“We had such a fun time attending the game and singing the National Anthem, and we feel so honored to be able to participate in the effort to help the Make-a-Wish organization! We are so grateful to all those who helped contributed with that effort. Go Cardinals!”

The Duttons have received a lot of support for Amy Dutton Arambulo’s son, Josiah, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2013, so they are passionate about supporting causes, especially for children.

Back to Branson

The Duttons made their biannual move between Branson, Missouri and Mesa, Arizona in early April, returning to their home theater just a few days before opening night of their 2016 Branson Season. They have a lot of new things to offer patrons this year, including an impressive LED screen, special pre-show video, unique musical arrangements, lightning, costuming, etc.

Their regular 2016 show runs from April-October, with the Christmas show running November through mid-December. Then they make the move back to Arizona, beginning their winter season with the Christmas show in the desert. The moving process is a huge undertaking, and they do it all themselves, leaving very little wiggle room before opening the show at the opposite location. This time-lapse video of the stage take-down in Arizona shows just a snippet of the complicated and exhausting moving process.

Titanic Tribute

On April 15, 2016, several Dutton family members were privileged to pay homage to the lives lost on the Titanic on the anniversary of the ship’s sinking over a century ago.

The Duttons visited the Titanic Museum in Branson, Missouri, which currently houses the violin of Titanic bandmaster Wallace Hartley. With special permission, the Duttons were allowed to play “Nearer, My God, to Thee” to honor Mr. Hartley, his bandmates, and all who perished that night.

While it is not verified as fact, it is widely accepted that this song was played by Hartley and his band as the great ship sank. The Duttons, including Amy, Abby, Tim, and Jon on violins, and Ben on the cello, performed a moving rendition of the song in front of the Hartley violin display.

Ben Dutton said they all felt so moved to be able to perform at the exhibit:

“As we played ‘Nearer, My God, to Thee’ around Wallace Hartley’s violin, it was almost as if he was there with us. To think that he and the other musicians chose to play their music as the ship was sinking is a testament to the power of music. We all gained a deeper appreciation for what happened that night on the Titanic and the amazing people that were aboard.”

The treasured violin was found in a protective case on the body of Wallace Hartley 10 days after the ship sank, and was eventually returned to his grieving fiance. It was then passed through different ownership, eventually landing at auction and selling for 1.7 million dollars to a private collector. The violin is on loan to be displayed at the Branson museum.

Tour Show: Rexburg, Idaho

The Duttons recently performed on tour in Rexburg, Idaho with a local high school fine arts department. Through generous sponsors and a sold-out venue, the show was able to help Madison High School students raise funds for their music program.

In the audience as special guests were members of the BYU-I President’s Executive Board, as well as a representative from Center Stage Productions.

The show received extremely positive feedback from attendees and students in the program, who said the experience was the highlight of the year. Jordan Busby, Madison High School Pricipal, stated, “One of the founding principles of Madison Presents is to bring in professional artists to work with our students and allow our students to perform with them on stage. We appreciate the kindness in the Duttons allowing such an opportunity to take place. Your concert enthusiasm is contagious, and you have made lifelong friends and supporters.”

The Duttons perform on tour several times throughout the year, but are usually on stage in one of their permanent seasonal locations: Branson, Missouri from April to December, and Mesa, Arizona from December to April. Check the “On Tour” and “Buy Tickets” tabs on theduttons.com for a schedule.

KSL Special

The Duttons recently had a visit from a news rep out of Utah. Tim Johnson featured the Dutton family on ksldads.com, sharing a quick backstory and some great photos of the Duttons on stage. Then the Dutton video aired on KSL news on March 1, 2016.

The video showed how the Duttons got to where they are now. From humble beginnings all the way to the world-renowned Branson theater district, the Duttons learned exactly what their parents set out to teach them: discipline, hard work, and strength in the family.

The KSL video featurettes use a creative hashtag at the end of some videos, and the hashtag #itsabouttime was chosen to emphasize what the Dutton family focus is all about: spending time together.

PBS Films Dutton Shows

PBS will be airing two Dutton broadcasts in 2016: The regular Dutton show and the Dutton Christmas show.

PBS came to spend a week in Branson to film both productions, spending Monday through Thursday capturing the regular Dutton show, and Friday through Saturday filming the Christmas show.

Michael Schaertl, who directed the TV series Touched by an Angel, came on as director for the filming of the Dutton performances. Much of the filming took place during the live audience performances, but PBS also took behind-the-scenes footage of the backstage environment and of a few numbers on stage with no audience present.

The Duttons had a busy week transitioning from the regular Dutton show to the Christmas show, and PBS caught it all on camera.

Dutton fans should expect to see the regular Dutton program airing on PBS sometime in March or April of 2016. The Christmas program won’t be released until sometime in November 2016. Most broadcasts will air on independent PBS stations.

Check The Duttons Facebook page and duttoncms.wpenginepowered.com news articles for regular updates.

Amy Dutton Awarded Fiddle Player of the Year

Amy Dutton Awarded Fiddle Player of the Year

The 2nd Annual Branson Terry Music Awards show was held on October 11, 2015 at the Starlite Theatre, and the Duttons were honored to be in attendance. The Duttons received nominations in two categories: Best Show of the Year and Fiddle Player of the Year.

While Best Show went to another nominee, Fiddle Player of the Year was awarded to Amy Dutton Arambulo. There were eight other nominees, and Amy was honored to be selected from among them.

“There are some really good fiddle players in town, so it’s an honor to receive this award,” she said. Amy’s expertise on the violin includes not only crowd-pleasing fiddling, but also great skill in the classical arena, which may be what gives her an edge on the competition.

But she says there’s always more to learn. “I wish I had more time for individual practice to work on classical technique because there is always room for improvement. It helps that I do the show every day because it helps me stay limber, but because I am the show director and a busy mom, my crazy schedule just doesn’t allow for more practice time.”

Amy was honored to be among other award winners like country star Billy Dean (Lifetime Achievement Award), and vocalist Jason Pritchett (Male Vocalist of the Year).

Amy was joined by a handful of other Duttons at the awards show, where they were able to rub shoulders with Branson’s best performers. The theater community don’t generally see each other often–except maybe an occasional sighting around the small town–so the opportunity to gather under one roof was unique and enjoyable. While the shows have a little friendly competition among them, they also support each other and respect each other’s contributions to Branson’s theater scene.

Including Amy’s Best Violinist Award, there were 27 Terry Awards given out for the evening. Amy is the most decorated Dutton with an impressive 10 awards in 12 nominations since the Duttons opened their Branson theater.

Does that put pressure on her to continue to be nominated and awarded?

“I always try my best. I always put as much into my violin as I can. In turn, I hope to be able to win some awards because I put my whole heart and soul into my violin. I love it.”

Duttons Welcome All Hands on Deck Show to their Branson Theater in 2016

The popular, All-American Roadshow and Radio Broadcast Reproduction opens March 17, 2016.

The ALL HANDS ON DECK! Show was born of a heart filled with gratitude and patriotism. Creator and star Jody Madaras wanted to write a show that would say “Thank you” to the greatest generation – the men and women who served our country during WWII and The Korean War – and also remind Americans of a time when our country was truly united. Mr Madaras also wanted to create something to stir the hearts of all Americans, especially the upcoming generation, to unite in patriotic support of the greatest nation of all time. Madaras said, “This new 1940’s show is very special to me – I spent nearly four years writing it.” The Ohio farm boy knew he wanted to say something important. “We are reminded everyday that our country has challenges. I wanted to write about patriotic unity, what’s right about our country, and thank our veterans in a musical way. I know how much these songs mean to them, and I have discovered as we have toured across America how much they inspire audiences of all ages. I want everyone to leave our show feeling a little better and happier about our country.”

For inspiration, Madaras used the Hollywood Victory Caravan (a group of famous film stars who toured America by train in 1942 selling war bonds) as the setting for his new show. Mr. Madaras adds, “When I got the idea to do the show, one of the things I found was that no one had ever done a show based on the Caravan. It was a huge part of the war effort and no one had ever fully honored them. 1942 was one of the most pivotal years in world history paving the way for much of the prosperity we enjoy in this great country of ours. That’s our theme: being united, then and now.”

Madaras’ strong patriotism is credited in large part to his family. His grandmother June was extremely active in the American Legion Auxiliary, and his grandfather, Adolph “Duff” immigrated through Ellis Island from Hungary in 1911, and proudly served as an officer in the US Navy in WWII. In a family of great Americans lives great patriotism, reverence, gratitude, honor, and integrity. Madaras has masterfully crafted together those values into a production that takes us all on a sentimental, and truly inspirational, journey. The ALL HANDS ON DECK! Show premiered in 2011 in Perrysburg, Ohio. That opening was so successful, no doubt thanks to Mr. Madaras’ experience and stardom of 20 years on Broadway, that 2012 brought a national tour, playing to sold out houses all across the U.S.A.

Billed as “a musical message for all Americans,” The ALL HANDS ON DECK! show cast features four well-known and seasoned Broadway performers (Jody Madaras, Valerie Hill, Katy Richter, and Carter Lynch) as well as a nine-piece live orchestra.

Audiences in Branson, MO will be able to enjoy the show starting March 17, 2016 at the Dutton Family Theater. For showtimes and ticket prices please call 417-332-2772.

Dutton Performances Benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital

Area appreciation shows are common in Branson, but the Duttons are did it a little differently this year – to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. The Duttons hosted their 2015 Area Appreciation Shows from Monday June 15 through Saturday June20th. All proceeds from the $7 local admission price were donated to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, which is dedicated to finding cancer cures and saving children.

The Dutton family has been involved in both personal and group fundraising for St. Jude, as a way of showing their gratitude for the care and compassion provided to Josiah, the son of AmyDutton Arambulo and her husband Rudy Arambulo. Josiah was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago and is receiving treatment through the St. Jude Affiliate Clinic at Mercy Children’s Hospital in Springfield.

According to grandma Sheila Dutton, “The family was struggling with whether to move Josiah to St. Louis for his weekly treatments, or keep him in Salt Lake City where he was first diagnosed. That’s when the doctors at Salt Lake’s Primary Children’s Hospital told us that St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis had an auxiliary clinic at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. Having access to the quality of medical care provided by St. Jude right here in this area has been a real blessing and we want to give back in any way possible.”

Josiah’s particular form of leukemia currently has a 90% cure rate, but treatments are required over the course of 3 ½ years. The proximity of St. Jude in Springfield has enabled Amy to continue performing in the Duttons’ show and her husband Rudy has been able to keep up with the rigors of his law practice in Branson, as well as taking care of Josiah’s three older brothers. Aside from raising money for St. Jude through Area Appreciation, Amy commented, “Above all I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of prayers and messages over the past months. Such sweet concern and compassion has helped carry us through this difficult time. You’re also invited to keep track of “Josiah’s Journey” athttp://josiahsjourney.squarespace.com.”

Thanks to their efforts and to the giving hearts of the audience members, The Duttons were able to raise over $12,000 this year for St. Jude. “It was an amazing experience over that week to see not only the locals respond to our request, but also to see the tourists visiting Branson that were in the audience that gave so generously to this wonderful cause.” Dean Dutton, Josiah’s Grandfather, continued, “We finished the week with a VIP night where we invited our local business leaders to the show as well as the staff and patients from St. Jude. It was such a wonderful evening. One we will never forget!”
